These years Bird Photographer of the Year Competition (before) highlights a variety of bird adventures, from a mallard duckling chasing a fly and an impatient shag to a hamerkop ruthlessly throwing a toad in the air. Now in its sixth year, the annual competition this week released a selection of finalists from more than 22,000 submissions in 73 countries capturing a range of playful, intimate, and sometimes unforgiving moments. The winners for 2021 will be announced in September. Below are some of Colossal’s favorite shots Pre-order the book Compilation of more than 200 photographs on the Competition website.
