in the Beginnings, Spanish artist Paco Pomet ((before) visualizes a number of irritating and absurd scenarios that emerged from an equally worrying event. In a series of satirical commentaries that are filled with pop culture references and allusions to art history, he juxtaposes different elements – a mushroom cloud breaking out in a classroom, women carelessly poking around on a tabletop at a sunrise, a mountain range rising an operating table.
In general, Pomet’s compositions contrast a black and white scene with a recurring, colorful sunrise or sunset, blending time periods and situations to mark the beginning of a new reality, a broad theme tied to the current moment. “Romance with a touch of irony is a very powerful visual engine,” he says of the series.
