Japanese woodworker Kazuaki Harada ((before) has designed these playful machines over the past few years that can be activated with a simple hand crank. Watch as miners work together, a character cackles with unprecedented gusto, and the devil aggressively plays the violin, and make sure you turn up the volume too – Harada often combines an audio component with the mechanical movements for an extra dose of whimsy. You can find more of his bizarre designs, which include more elaborate, more abstract pieces as well as many of the character-based works shown here in his Instagram and Youtube.
