Extensive swaths of fungal spores, Venus flytrap hunting, and an opportunistic leopard seal coming in 2021 BigPicture nature photography Competition shows off the beautiful, peculiar, and resilient flora and fauna around the world. Now in its eighth year hosted by the California Academy of Sciences, the annual competition focuses primarily on conservation and human impacts on the environment. The 2021 competition received entries that showed the profound changes to the planet in the last few months alone by documenting the desolate landscape after Australian bushfires and a disposable face mask off the coast of California.
