NASA and USPS have teamed up for release a dazzling series of postage stamps celebrating some of the sun’s most seductive phenomena. The ten designs were printed with a foil treatment and are from a decade of images captured by the Solar Dynamics Observatory, which was launched in February 2010 to monitor the star’s activity in geosynchronous orbit over Earth. NASA colored the phenomena otherwise imperceptible to the human eye for the collection to create saturated, colorful renderings that emphasize the unique properties of coronal holes, solar flares, and plasma explosions.
