It is now open at the Elmhurst Art Museum Par Excellence Redux, a mini golf course with a diverse collection of playable works of art. Curated by Colossal’s founder and editor-in-chief Christopher Jobson As part of an open call, the two-part course pays homage to the extremely popular In perfect completion which opened in 1988 at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The designs range from a challenging optical illusion to a labyrinthine lock with the potential for a hole-in-one to Annalee Koehn’s fortune-telling, which was first shown in the first exhibition 33 years ago.

The Chicago sculptor Michael O’Brien designed the original In perfect completionthat opened to shut down the block and then sold out daily. It was recognized nationally in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Chicago grandstand, among others and toured Illinois before returning to Chicago as a renamed commercial project called ArtGolf 1800 N. Clybourn in Lincoln Park on the site now occupied by Goose Island Brewery. Although artist-designed golf courses are featured in a variety of Midwestern museums, versions can be found in the Walker Art Center, The Sheldon, and the Nelson Atkins Art MuseumIn perfect completion is widely believed to be the first.

The front 9, which runs through September 26, features artists Julie Cowan, Current projects, Andrea Jablonski & Stolatis Inc., Annalee Köhn, Latent design, Jesse Meredith, Gautam Rao, Robin Schwartzman & Tom Loftus (alias A couple of putts) and the museum museum Youth Art Council. Open October 13, 2021 to January 2, 2022, The back 9 shows works by artists Wesley Baker, KT Duffy, Eva Fineman, Joshua Kirsch, Annalee Köhn, Vincent Lotesto, Joshua Lowe, Jim Merz, David Quednau, and Liam Wilson & Anna Gershon.
