Pastoral landscapes and calm domestic scenes embroidered in vintage textiles Ulla-Stina Wikander‘s needlepoint sculptures. Wikander (before) sculpts the cross stitch work around your selected object, wrapping it in a blanket of color and texture while keeping its original shape. Diverse facets of domestic life intersect in the revitalized pieces that bring together the ancient craft traditionally associated with home decoration and items from kitchens and garages to create newly interpreted forms.
Dividing her time between Stockholm and Kullavik, Wikander shares that she has started working with exercise equipment and more elaborate tools that you can see on Instagram. You can browse their available works at Philadelphia Paradigm Gallery, and see their pieces up to 6th Jane Lombard Gallery in New York and at M Contemporary Gallery in Sydney in the coming months.
