Sources: Knicks Hold Rose, Others; Add fournier

In a busy start to the NBA recreation room, the New York Knicks agreed on Monday on a three-year contract worth $ 43 million to bring back the former MVP Derrick RoseSources said ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and they have reached an agreement with the guard Evan Fournier, formerly from the Boston Celticsconfirmed his agent Wojnarowski.

Fournier’s contract runs for four years and can be worth up to $ 78 million, a source said Wojnarowski. The deal includes a fourth year team option, according to a source.

The Knicks also agreed on a three-year $ 30 million contract to re-sign the guard Alec BurksSources said Wojnarovsky, ending up on a $ 32 million three-year deal to bring the center back Nerlens Noelsaid his agent Wojnarowski.

“Looking forward to doing it back in New York! Let’s go! #Knickstape,” Noel tweeted.

The addition of Fournier gives New York – which shot just 30 percent from the 3-point range in its playoff series in the first round, a loss to the Atlanta Hawks – a necessary offensive thrust on the perimeter next to it RJ Barrett and Julius Randle, Winner of last season’s Most Improved Player Award.

The 28-year-old Fournier, currently with France in the Olympic Games in Tokyo, averaged 17.1 points per game last season and scored 42 games between the Orlando Magic and Celts.

Rose, Burks and Noel, meanwhile, were all part of the Knicks’ surprise resurgence last season under first-year coach Tom Thibodeau, who was named Coach of the Year when New York made the playoffs for the first time in seven seasons.

The Knicks hope that the addition of Fournier will help change their postseason fortune after losing five games to the Hawks to open the 2020-21 Eastern Conference playoffs.

After spending six and a half years at Magic, the Celtics bought Fournier for a pair of second-round picks and guards at the close of trading in March Jeff Teague, putting Fournier into the massive trading exception of Gordon Hayward Go to Charlotte Hornets in a sign-and-trade last off-season.

But after Fournier only played 16 games with the Celtics – including missing a number of games due to COVID-19 and dealing with some debilitating aftermath of the virus – Fournier is now heading to the Knicks after agreeing to a contract, the Boston did not want to, as the Celtics would have included in the luxury tax.

The Celtics telegraphed their intentions this Front Friday as they used the remaining space in this Hayward trade exception to mark the final year of the Josh Richardson‘s contract and gives them a guard to join the rotation of new coach Ime Udoka.

The Knicks acquired Rose in a mid-season deal with the Detroit flask, him with Thibodeau, his coach during his MVP season with the Chicago Bulls 2010-11, and again with the Minnesota Timberwolves. It turned out great as Rose averaged 14.9 points and 4.2 assists while shooting 48.9 percent out of the field in 35 games with New York.

Burks, 30, shot 41.5% off the 3-point range and averaged 12.7 points in 49 games last season. Burks, an athletic goalscorer, made a home in New York last season after moving between five different teams Utah Jazz, Cleveland Cavaliers, Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers – for the past two years he has kept a constant presence on the grand piano in New York.

It’s a similar story for Noel, who played 64 games in 2020-21, starting with 41 of them, averaging 2.2 blocks at the career peak with 5.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Noel, 27, has effectively partnered with other youth centers Mitchell Robinson when the two were healthy and well filled in as the primary option when Robinson was injured.

Noel, who is entering his eighth NBA season, previously spent parts of three seasons with the 76ers, which put him in sixth overall in 2013, parts of two seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, and then two more with that Oklahoma City thunder before signing with the Knicks last off-season.
